Canaland Christian Academy of Early Learning begins it’s educational program at 6 weeks old through touching, exploring, encouraging developmentally appropriate physical development, to the toddler years with learning body parts, colors, easy songs, counting, eating independence, etc. By the time your child is two years old, they will begin preschool.
The primary part of preschool is held in the morning. Children are not only taught letter and number recognition, but comprehension. We make learning fun through board games, puppet skits, finger plays, learning songs, etc. Basic manners are taught through example by the staff; saying please, thank you and excuse me. Teachers are addressed as Miss, Mr., or Mrs.. These are the beginning stages of learning respect for their elders.
The day is filled with several learning experiences and opportunities to grow at their own level of development, through a wide variety of activities such as:
- Making God, His Word, and His Son a part of their every day experience
- Training through Bible stories and a Christian curriculum
- Outdoor activity (and indoor activity during inclement weather)
- Creative expression in art, music, and movement
- Intellectual stimulation and growth
- Academic readiness in reading, writing and numbers
- Experiences in which he/she can progress at their own pace
- Social Interaction
- Large and small motor development
- Once a month we offer an “Ethnic Day”. A special speaker from the country featured does a presentation about their native country. The menu at Canaland that day is typical of the featured country.
- On a monthly basis the children 3 years and older travel on the Stevens Point Christian Academy bus to the Portage County Health Care Center to visit the "Grandma’s and Grandpa’s”. The children sing songs, do finger plays, or a special performance for the elderly. A treat to all involved! If you do not want your child to participate, please hand a written note to the receptionist.
